More About Contact Lenses
Fitting contact lenses is an ongoing process.
It starts with gathering all the necessary information about each of your
eyes and making a professional judgment. Numerous contact lens designs
can be tested to ensure a healthy physical response from your eyes.
The human eye is a living organ whose shape,
structure and chemistry invariably change over time. Since all contact
lenses will be acted upon by the eye, the environment, and the solutions
with which they come in contact, periodic contact lens evaluations are
necessary for as long as lenses are being worn.
Fitting Fees
Our fitting fees are based on the estimated time,
effort and expertise that will be required in order to successfully fit
each case. Some modes of wear, such as Extended and Flexible Wear,
in which lenses are left in the eye during sleep, have greater potential
for complications. These wearing schedules require a longer initial
follow-up period. Some types of lenses, such as toric, monovision
and bifocal lenses, require a greater level of skill and time to achieve
a successful result. Our fees are divided into "Divisions" which
take these factors into account. When a current wearer wants to upgrade
to a more expensive mode of wear, such as changing from Daily to Extended
Wear, they are typically charged at a fee one division lower than the norm.
Material Fees
Our fees for the lenses themselves are also divided
into divisions, based on what the lens manufacturer charges us. A number
of good quality Daily and Extended wear lenses fall in the Divison I category.
Lenses with special properties, such as better wetting on a dry eye, greater
oxygen permeability, or custom manufacturing may fall in Divison II or
III, depending on the manufacturer's cost. We will always use the lowest
material division likely to work for your eyes and offer the option
to upgrade if there is a possible benefit to be gained. If in the
course of a fitting, both doctor and patient elect to change to a higher
division lens, only the difference in fees between those divisions will
be additionally charged.
Since it is important during the adaptation and
fine tuning of an initial fitting to be able to easily change from one
lens to another, we prefer to have our office provide the lenses.
To encourage this, we keep our material mark-up to a bare minimum.
Refund Policy
All material fees are 100% refundable during
the fitting period. All lenses must be returned intact to qualify
for refund. Lost or damaged lenses will be replaced at a 50% fee.
Fitting fees for services received are non-refundable.
If the fitting process is discontinued before completion by either the
doctor or patient, a pro-rated refund will be provided. Once the
fitting process has begun, a minimum $30.00 fee is incurred.
